[dropcap]A[/dropcap]nother night of terrorism unfolded in Adamawa state on Wednesday with multiple attacks that killed unspecified number of people, according to community leaders.

Chairman of Madagali Local Government Council, Yusuf Muhammed, confirmed the attacks that lasted over 4 hours.

He said that the terrorists burnt no fewer than 60 houses and looted foodstuff.

“They looted foodstuff, killed livestock and burnt the village completely,” he stated.

The attack comes a few days after a similar incident in a neighbouring village in the Local Government, known as Mildu, where seven people were killed by the insurgents.

But the Spokesman of the Police Command in Adamawa, Othman Abubakar, who also confirmed the attack, said no life was lost. He said, however, that houses were destroyed in the attack–the latest in a string of deadly blows on mainly soft targets in the troubled northeast.

The raid comes eight months  after President Muhammadu Buhari said Boko Haram had “technically” been defeated by a military campaign that had pushed many of the sect deep into the remote Sambisa forest, near the border with Cameroon.

It’s not the first time the federal government has appeared to claim a premature victory against Boko Haram.

While the Nigerian Military gains fighting the insurgency has limited the sect’s capability to launch large-scale attacks and hold territory, the sect appears to be regaining momentum in recent weeks.
