The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported the vandalism of one of its transmission towers, T347, along the Gombe–Damaturu 330kV line. The incident, which occurred on Friday, October 24, 2025, at about 5:46 p.m, has disrupted bulk electricity supply to Maiduguri, Damaturu, and adjoining areas.

According to a statement by the General Manager, Public affairs, Ndidi Mbah, a routine inspection team discovered that the tower’s legs had been cut off, causing it to collapse partially.

The damage has affected power transmission to parts of Borno and Yobe States, she said.

Despite the recent setback, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is ensuring continued power supply.

Electricity is being sustained via the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP), which feeds the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) for distribution to major areas like Beneshiek, Damasak, and Maiduguri Town. Damaturu and nearby communities are temporarily receiving power from the Potiskum Substation.

Engineers have already been deployed to the site to rebuild the damaged structure and restore normal operations.

TCN strongly condemned the vandalism, calling it a deliberate act of sabotage against national infrastructure.

The company urged the public to protect power assets by immediately reporting any suspicious activities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
