In response to recent security concerns and an increase in criminal activity over the past weekend in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Police Command has launched a robust, intelligence-led operational strategy.
This new initiative aims to tackle criminal elements head-on and ensure the ongoing safety of residents.
As part of this intensified effort, the Command will increase stop-and-search operations in identified flashpoints.
These operations will specifically target individuals involved in “one-chance” robberies, vandalism, and the activities of scavengers, who are increasingly posing a security threat in the area.
The operation will also crack down on unauthorised individuals using diplomatic number plates to commit crimes and evade law enforcement.
The command, in a statement sent to Persecondnews on Tuesday by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, warned members of the public to avoid driving vehicles with obscured number plates, vehicles without number plates, or those displaying only one plate.
The statement reads: “Likewise, individuals using vehicles with tinted glasses must ensure they possess valid tinted permit documents. Vehicles found in violation of these requirements may be subjected to thorough checks, and the drivers may be delayed.
“The Command urges all residents to cooperate with officers on duty, remain law-abiding, and exercise patience as these measures are being implemented for the safety of all. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appeal for the public’s understanding and support during this period.
“The FCT Police Command remains committed to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property and will continue to do everything within its power to ensure the security and well-being of all residents.”
