Just In: Police Stray Bullet Claims Life of WASSCE Student in Ibadan

A student heading to take the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Ibadan, Oyo State, was reportedly killed by a police stray bullet on Tuesday.

The incident, reported by Persecondnews, occurred on the Gbagi market road in the Egbeda Local Government Area.

A police officer, allegedly in pursuit of a suspect, fired a shot that tragically struck and killed the student.

Investigations reveal the student was riding a motorcycle with his father and twin brother when the fatal bullet hit.

An eyewitness identified only as Ajani said: “A police officer discharged his firearm while pursuing a fleeing vehicle. One of the bullets reportedly struck the student, who was riding a motorcycle with his father and twin brother.

“The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

Another witness said: “The deceased was on his way to the examination centre alongside his twin brother when the tragedy happened.”

Meanwhile, angry youths have taken the student’s lifeless body to the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, to demand justice, and called on Gov. Seyi Makinde to intervene.

The body has since been deposited at the morgue of Adeoyo Hospital.
