The new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has announced new principal officers following the dissolution of the former committee, which was dissolved after Mr. Mudashiru Obasa was impeached as Speaker

Persecondnews recalls that Obasa, the representative of Agege Constituency I, was removed from his position on January 13, following allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

The impeachment led to the election of Meranda, who previously served as Deputy Speaker to lead the state assembly, while Fatai Adebola was elected as deputy speaker.

Upon assuming office, the new Speaker met with the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

The meeting, she said, was to provide an update on recent developments in the assembly and seek the council’s approval for the new appointments.

Chairing the plenary session on Friday, the Speaker announced the appointments of Mr.Temitope Adedeji as majority leader, Mr. David Setonji as chief whip, Mr. Richard Kasumu retained his seat as deputy majority leader.

Meranda said: “The members appointed are: Hon Temitope Adedeji (Ifako Ijaiye 1) as Majority Leader, Hon David Setonji (Badagry 2) as Chief Whip, Hon. Richard Kasumu (Ikeja 2) as Deputy Majority Leader while Hon. Sanni Babatunde (Kosofe 1) as Deputy Chief Whip.”
