The Labour Party (LP) has appointed Mr Akin Osuntokun, a former Political Adviser to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Director-General of its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

Before his appointment, Osuntokun was the Zonal Coordinator, Southwest, of the campaign council.

The one-time Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) replaces Dr Doyin Okupe, who resigned after escaping jail term by paying the N13 million fine for violating the Money Laundering Act.

The National Chairman of the party, Mr Julius Abure, made the announcement at a strategic meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party which had in attendance Obi and other chieftains.

Abure praised Osuntokun, describing him as a worthy successor of Dr Okupe.

Persecondnews recalls that following the resignation of Okupe, Afenifere National Youth Council had pleaded with the National Working Committee to consider Comrade Isaac Balami as Okupe’s successor.

Balami had dumped APC a couple of months ago, and was subsequently appointed the Deputy National Campaign Manager of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign.
