A heavy cloud of sorrow settled over Ilaro, Ogun State, in the early hours of Monday, August 24, as devastated residents and loved ones received the body of beloved Yoruba movie icon Taiwo Hassan, fondly called Ogogo.
The arrival of the respected actor’s body in his hometown has deepened the sorrow surrounding his passing, sending renewed shockwaves through the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Family members, friends, colleagues, and local residents are gathering to receive his remains ahead of the burial.
Ogogo, who passed away on Sunday following a battle with stage four cancer, is survived by his children and relatives as the creative community continues to mourn his loss.
PerSecondNews reports that his final moments were reportedly spent with members of his family, including his eldest children, to whom he urged to remain united and keep the family together.
The actor’s death has also left his close friends and colleagues devastated, with veteran actors including Yinka Quadri, Dele Odule and Olaiya Igwe reportedly too grief-stricken to speak extensively about his passing.
Ogogo’s burial prayer is scheduled to hold at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground in Ilaro at 10am, as the Yoruba film industry and his admirers prepare to bid farewell to one of its most influential veterans.
