Manchester City is launching a dramatic £120 million late transfer bid for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

Report from London suggest that the Premier League champions want the 25-year-old Argentina international immediately to rebuild their heavily depleted midfield before the looming transfer deadline.

The historic move would reunite the midfielder with City manager Enzo Maresca, who previously coached him at Stamford Bridge.

Although City missed a strict early bidding deadline set by Chelsea, they refused to give up their relentless pursuit of the World Cup winner.

If City meets the massive £120 million valuation, the South American maestro will rank among the most expensive signings in Premier League history.

Fernandez originally arrived at Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a then British-record fee of £106.8 million.

The champions desperately need reinforcements after losing top stars Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders, while Nico Gonzalez heads to Newcastle.

City already bought Elliot Anderson for £116 million from Nottingham Forest and is actively tracking Lille’s young talent Ayyoub Bouaddi.

Personal terms will not block the sensational switch because Fernandez is highly eager to move to Manchester.

However, Chelsea will only approve the blockbuster sale if they successfully secure a top-quality midfield replacement before the summer transfer market officially shuts down.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso refused to guarantee that the midfield star will stay in London.

While confirming Fernandez remains a Chelsea player for now, Alonso openly left the door wide open for major developments as the tense transfer deadline quickly approaches.
