IGP Crack Team Nabs Man Behind Fake Tinubu Audio

A specialized unit of the Nigeria Police Force has tracked down and arrested Ifechukwu Dennis, the mastermind behind a viral, manipulated audio clip mimicking President Bola Tinubu.

Confirming the development on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed on X that the suspect was cornered and apprehended by the IGP crack team in Benin City, Edo State.

“The IGP crack team has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis who originated the fake voice that he passed on to his gullible targets as President Tinubu’s voice,” Onanuga stated.

According to him, the suspect allegedly used the doctored audio to deceive unsuspecting members of the public by presenting the manipulated voice as that of President Tinubu.

He added that the police would issue an official statement on the matter.

Persecondnews recalls that the development followed an earlier reaction by the Presidency to the circulation of the controversial audio clip which it described as false and deliberately manipulated.

The Presidency had accused social media commentator, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), of disseminating the audio recording in which a voice resembling that of the president allegedly made remarks on insecurity in the South-east, borrowing from the World Bank and the 2027 general election.

However, Otse refuted the claims, saying the controversial audio was fabricated and had no connection with him.

The Presidency warned that the circulation of manipulated content capable of misleading the public and inciting tension would not be tolerated, stressing that legal action could be taken against individuals involved in spreading false information.

In a related development, the police also arrested another Nigerian over what authorities described as an alarming social media post concerning security in Abuja.

The post, according to the police, created fear and panic among residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

Security authorities said the arrest was intended to send a strong message that reckless use of social media platforms and the deliberate spread of false or inflammatory information would attract legal consequences.

The Presidency reiterated its warning against the dissemination of fake content, urging Nigerians to verify information before sharing it on social media platforms.
