The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed a viral social media claim and media reports, alleging an assassination attempt on Lt. Ahmed Yerima.

The command labeled the report “entirely false” and harmful, stating it was “capable of causing unnecessary fear among residents.”

In a statement sent to Persecondnews on Monday, November 17, the FCT Police confirmed that it has no record, report, or indication of such an incident occurring anywhere within Abuja.

The public was urged to treat the claim as a deliberate misinformation campaign.

The statement reads: “The attention of the command has been drawn to publications alleging an attempted assassination on Lt. Ahmed Yerima.

“We categorically state that no such incident has taken place within the Federal Capital Territory.”

The command cautioned residents against the circulation of unverified information, stressing that such rumours often trigger avoidable panic and disrupt public peace.

It further appealed to citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and responsible in their use of social media, noting that public safety relies heavily on cooperation, accurate reporting, and community awareness.

Residents were urged to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

Persecondnews recalls that Lt. Yerima came into the limelight when he had an altercation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike when he wanted to inspect a disputed land belonging to a senior military officer in Abuja on Monday, November 11.

A few days after the verbal exchange, news started circulating that an assassination attempt was made on the young officer’s life in Abuja.
