Liverpool finally claimed their first home Premier League win of the season, taking control against in-form Brighton through two goals inside a four-minute first-half spell.
Pascal Gross diverted Florian Wirtz’s shot into his own net for the 17th-minute opener, before Alexander Isak scored his sixth goal of the campaign with a cushioned volley from Bradley Barcola’s right-wing cross.
Isak has now scored in three consecutive Premier League appearances for the first time since January 2025, when he netted in eight straight games for Newcastle.
Yasin Ayari had earlier fired wastefully over after a fine Brighton move, and later saw a shot rebound off the post after Alisson lost possession playing out from the back.
Gross’s own goal was the first league concession for Brighton since their 1-1 draw with Leeds on 5 September, ending a nine-hour, seven-minute shutout across all competitions, as Liverpool led at Anfield in the Premier League for the first time this season.
Andoni Iraola recorded his first league win at Anfield as Liverpool boss, following two home Champions League victories and a Carabao Cup success since replacing Arne Slot, while Brighton’s loss was only their second in 13 matches in 2026-27.
Liverpool moved from fifth to fourth, one point behind third-placed Brighton, and remain unbeaten in all 126 Premier League games at Anfield when leading by two or more goals at half-time.
