Twelve members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have initiated impeachment proceedings against Speaker Olamide Oladiji, citing allegations of gross misconduct and financial impropriety.
The lawmakers, representing half of the 26-member House, have passed a vote of no confidence in Oladiji, accusing him of diverting N50 million meant for a public hearing and misappropriating the Assembly’s monthly operational funds.
“A vote of no confidence is hereby passed upon Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji,” the resolution reads, calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate and prosecute Oladiji if necessary.
The lawmakers allege that Oladiji’s actions contravene several constitutional provisions, including the fifth and seventh schedules of the 1999 constitution, the ICPC Act, and the Criminal Code.
Speaking for the group, Temitope Komolafe dismissed Oladiji’s claim that the impeachment is targeting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as “a capital lie wrapped in mischief and borne out of desperation”.
Komolafe praised Aiyedatiwa for restoring dignity, transparency, and stability to the state, insisting the impeachment is solely about Oladiji’s alleged misconduct.
He accused Oladiji of financial recklessness, divisive leadership, and manipulating legislative processes.
He also alleged that Oladiji attempted to bribe him and demanded a public explanation for an alleged refund linked to the inducement.
The lawmaker condemned Oladiji’s role in last year’s political crisis, accusing him of leading a “baseless and chaotic” impeachment attempt against the governor.
