2 Months, 5 Tragic Deaths: Lagos Records 5th Female LG Official

812

Lagos State is experiencing a deeply troubling period for its local governance, as the state mourns the loss of a fifth female local government official within the last two months of the current council administration.

The latest casualty is Mrs. Khadijat Adebimpe Akintola, the diligent Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Mrs. Akintola, who also served as the Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State, passed away on Monday afternoon, September 29, 2025, following a brief illness.

The Forum of Council Managers officially announced her death, recognizing her committed service as the Head of Administration for Coker/Aguda LCDA until her demise.

Her funeral arrangements include Janazah prayers at Al Kitab Mosque in Eleshin after the Zuhr prayer followed by burial at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery in Igbe Lara on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Her death follows those of four other female local government officials who died within a short span since the July 27, 2025 inauguration.

These include Councillor Oluwakemi Rufai of Ward C in Ibeju Lekki Local Government (August 13), Councillor Zainab Shotayo of Ward C in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA (August 18), Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA (September 20), and Councillor Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan of Ward F, Somolu Local Government (September 21).

Most of these officials died after brief illnesses, causing shock and grief across Lagos State’s local councils.

The party spokesperson for the ruling APC in Lagos has dismissed speculations about political hostility and urged the public to avoid misinformation, describing the deaths as shocking and painful but unrelated to politics.
