Sergio Busquets, the Spanish football legend, has announced his retirement from professional football at the end of the current Major League Soccer season.

The 37-year-old midfielder, who played for Barcelona and Spain, has had an illustrious career, winning numerous titles and accolades.

Busquets’ retirement marks the end of an era for a player who was instrumental in Barcelona’s dominance in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

Alongside Andres Iniesta and Xavi, he formed one of the greatest midfield trios in history, revolutionizing the game with their tiki-taka style.

“I feel that the time has come to say goodbye to my career as a professional soccer player,” Busquets said in a social media post.

“It has been almost 20 years enjoying this incredible story that I have always dreamed of.”

Busquets’ partnership with Lionel Messi is one of the most notable aspects of his career.

The pair has played together 640 times for Barcelona and Inter Miami, with Busquets often providing the creative spark that Messi would capitalize on.

During his 15-year tenure at Barcelona, Busquets made 722 appearances, with only Messi (778) and Xavi (767) featuring in more matches for the club.

Busquets’ trophy cabinet is filled with glittering prizes, including the World Cup, European Championship, Champions League, and Spanish title.

He won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship with Spain, and his club career was marked by numerous titles with Barcelona, including three Champions Leagues and nine La Liga titles.

He has also won the Leagues Cup and MLS Supporters’ Shield with Inter Miami.

“Thank you all, and thank you to football for so much. You will always be part of this beautiful story,” Busquets said, expressing his gratitude to the sport that has given him so much.
