2027 Polls: Jonathan, David Mark Engage in Strategic Meeting with ADC Leaders in Abuja

Speculation continues to swirl around a potential presidential bid by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former president fueled these rumors on Thursday night by visiting the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Okey Nwosu and former Senate President David Mark.

Persecondnews gathered that the meeting occurred just hours after the ADC held its First National Caucus meeting in Abuja, where the party was adopted as a coalition platform.

Jonathan has been actively courted by some members of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Having previously served as President until his defeat by the late President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, Jonathan is constitutionally only eligible for one more term in office if he were to run and be elected.

While the exact purpose of the recent meeting with Nwosu wasn’t immediately clear, it’s worth noting that Jonathan and the ADC’s national chairman share a history.

Mark was a close ally and former Senate President during Jonathan’s administration.

Their relationship was key in the past, as it was the “doctrine of necessity” crafted by the National Assembly under Nwosu’s leadership that allowed Jonathan to assume office as Acting President during the health crisis of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
