Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has voiced her disappointment over the delay in paying the team the promised $100,000 reward for their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) victory in Morocco.

In a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo monitored by Persecondnews, Ajibade confirmed that the team is still awaiting the payment.

“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid. They have not paid, all the promises, we have not received anything,” she said.

Ajibade’s concerns extend beyond the $100,000 reward, as she also mentioned that their match bonuses are still being processed.

“Even our match bonuses and everything are all still work in progress,” she said with a touch of humour.

“Because people want to suffocate me and they’ve shared the money into percentage, and we’ve not received it”.

The captain’s comments highlight the team’s eagerness to receive the promised rewards for their outstanding performance.

When asked if the $100,000 had been delivered, Ajibade’s response was clear: “We have not received our money”.

Persecondnews recalls that the team’s victory in Morocco was a historic moment for Nigeria, necessitating the fulfillment of government’s promises to them.

After the team’s triumph, President Bola Tinubu conferred national honours of Officer of the Order of Niger (OON) on the players and the technical crew, while also announcing rewards of $100,000 and a three-bedroom flat for each team member.

The President lauded the players for their “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination and courage”, describing their win as a historic achievement for Nigeria.
