Despite widespread speculation of his imminent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke affirmed on Tuesday his commitment to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but declared that the state’s PDP chapter has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Adeleke said the decision that he should remain in PDP and adoption of Tinubu as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election was reached at his meeting with leaders of the party in Osun State on Monday.
Adeleke stated that his meeting with PDP leaders was the culmination of weeks of consultations with a wide range of stakeholders.
These included traditional rulers, civil servants, market leaders, and grassroots party members across Osun State.
During these discussions, he also secured an endorsement as the PDP’s sole candidate for the Osun 2026 governorship election.
This decision, he noted, was formalized in a communique issued by the Osun PDP leadership caucus.
“I will remain in the PDP, the party that gave me the platform to serve the good people of Osun. I have been unanimously endorsed by the Osun PDP for a second term in 2026.
“Our party in Osun has also endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027, recognizing him as a proud son of our state,” Adeleke said
“PDP remains the most popular and trusted party across Osun State. I will continue to deliver on our Five-Point Agenda with renewed focus and dedication. The love and support from the people of Osun continues to inspire me. Together, we move forward.”
Persecondnews recalls that speculations were rife that the governor is set to dump the PDP for APC ahead of the election for his second term in 2026.
However, key members of the APC in Osun State had opposed the move as they believe that admitting the governor into the party will automatically make him the leader of the party in the state and secure the governorship ticket of the party for the 2026 election.
