The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has commenced reconstruction work on three transmission towers that collapsed along the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi transmission line.

A company statement obtained by Persecondnews indicated that severe winds caused damage to power infrastructure at approximately 5:35 p.m. on May 7.

Consequently, the collapse has impacted the bulk electricity supply to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, leading to supply disruptions across multiple communities, especially in Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi.

In an effort to expedite the restoration process, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has engaged three contractors, with each tasked with the reconstruction of one of the damaged towers.

The company stated that this approach is aimed at shortening the restoration timeline and reducing the impact on electricity distribution in the affected areas.

In the interim, TCN has rerouted power through the 132kV Mando–Zaria–Funtua–Gusau–Talata Mafara–Sokoto–Birnin Kebbi line, which is currently supplying between 6 and 7 megawatts of bulk electricity to Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi.

“Work is ongoing at the site, with TCN engineers supervising reconstruction and restringing of the transmission line.”

The company has expressed appreciation for the patience of residents and communities affected by the disruption.
