The Nigerian U20 national team, Flying Eagles, has secured a spot in the quarter finals of the ongoing CAF U20 Championship in Egypt.
Despite a 2-2 draw with Kenya’s Rising Stars in their final group match, the team finished second in Group B with five points.
The match against Kenya was a nail-biter, with the Rising Stars taking the lead through Kevin Wangaya’s penalty kick in the 5th minute.
However, the Flying Eagles equalized seven minutes later through Kparobo Arierhi’s goal.
Kenya took the lead again in the 68th minute, but Nigeria’s captain, Daniel Bameyi, scored a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to level the score at 2-2.
Persecondnews reports that the Flying Eagles will now face the second-placed team in Group C in the quarter finals, which features title-holders Senegal, Ghana, Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The match is scheduled to take place on Monday in Ismailia, Egypt, at 3 pm local time (1 pm Nigeria time).
