The Egyptian Football Federation has formally requested FIFA to grant the country the right to host a set of group-stage matches for the 2034 World Cup, which will be held in Saudi Arabia.

The request was made by Hany Abo Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Federation, during the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo.

Abo-Rida expressed Egypt’s support for Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the World Cup, stating, “Saudi Arabia will stand up and organise a historic edition of the World Cup, and we wish our Saudi brothers every success.”

He, however, pointed out Egypt’s desire to be involved in the tournament, citing the country’s historic significance as the first African nation to participate in the World Cup in 1934.

The 2034 World Cup will mark the centenary of Egypt’s World Cup debut.

Saudi Arabia was officially designated as the host of the 2034 World Cup by the FIFA Congress on December 11, becoming the third Arab country to host the tournament after Qatar in 2022 and Morocco in 2030, which will be co-hosted with Spain and Portugal.
