Abuja Police Crackdown: 245 Suspects Apprehended, Hard Drugs, Weapons Seized

In a bid to rid the capital city of hard drugs and criminals, the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Police Command says it has arrested 245 suspects across various locations in the capital territory.

It also recovered hard drugs and dangerous weapons from abandoned buildings and isolated areas.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement sent to Persecondnews on Friday that between February 6 and February 23, 2025, they conducted intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts, black spots, and abandoned buildings across the territory.

She said: “These high-impact operations, executed with precision focused on crime-prone areas including Kurudu, Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa, Wuye, Galadimawa, Iddo, Kuje, Apo, Zuba, Asokoro, Karshi, Karu, Byazhin, and other strategic locations.

“A total of two hundred and forty-five (245) suspects were apprehended. These individuals are currently undergoing thorough profiling and screening.

“Those found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.”

 

According to Adeh, the police operations resulted in the seizure of a large cache of dangerous weapons, illicit substances, and items linked to criminal activities.

The recovered items included marijuana, axes, machetes, glue, handmade bongs, scissors, ID cards, and various pills suspected to be illicit substances.

The statement reads: “Additionally, the Command has increased its monitoring of remote locations and abandoned structures that have been suspected of being criminal hideouts.

“According to intelligence sources, some of these facilities are being abused for illegal purposes, such as organized crime and drug usage.

“Security inspections of these buildings have been stepped up in response to this trend, and a number of them have been raided and their unlawful residents removed.

“Pertinent government entities are urged to take the appropriate steps as soon as possible to address this developing issue, property owners are strongly reminded to safeguard their buildings to prevent misuse.

“The CP reassures the public that the FCT Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
