Just in: Renowned Nigerian Statesman Edwin Clark Passes Away at 97

Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, a prominent Nigerian statesman and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has passed away at the age of 97.

According to a statement released by his family on Tuesday Clark died on Monday. The family has appreciated prayers and support during this difficult time, with other details to be announced later.

Clark was a highly respected figure in Nigerian politics, having served as a senator, minister, and commissioner in various capacities.

He was also a strong advocate for the rights and development of the Niger Delta region. The Ijaw Professionals Association had celebrated Clark’s 97th birthday, hailing him as a “beacon of hope” and a testament to “unwavering dedication, resilience, and an indomitable spirit of service”.

Throughout his distinguished career, Clark played key roles in establishing several institutions, including the University of Benin and the Edwin Clark University in his hometown of Kiagbodo.

He was also a recipient of several honorary awards, including the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).

Clark’s passing has been met with tributes and condolences from various quarters, celebrating his life and legacy as a champion of justice, equity, and development.
