The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has partnered with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to establish the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja.

Persecondnews reports that this landmark project aims to revolutionize healthcare in Nigeria and West Africa by providing specialized treatment for oncology, haematology, and cardiology diseases.

The AMCE, a 500-bed state-of-the-art hospital, is expected to address critical healthcare needs in the region.

As a strategic partner, NNPC Ltd will become an equity investor in the project, which has already generated approximately 3,000 jobs during its construction and operational phases.

The project is a result of a technical partnership between Afreximbank and King’s College Hospital (KCH), UK, which will provide training and knowledge transfer to enhance medical services.

The AMCE is scheduled to commence commercial operations on June 5, 2025, and is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s position as a regional medical hub.

The partnership between NNPC Ltd and Afreximbank demonstrates the importance of public-private sector collaboration in developing the health sector.

The project is expected to reduce medical tourism and foreign exchange outflow, while increasing access to specialized healthcare services in Nigeria and West Africa.
