Sports Development: A Critical Component of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda – Presidency

128

The Presidency has reaffirmed that sports development plays a vital role in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, serving as a catalyst for the growth and development of Nigerian youths.

This emphasis on sports development aligns with the administration’s broader goals of promoting democracy, development, demographics, and diaspora engagement, as outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda.

By prioritizing sports development, the Presidency aims to harness the potential of Nigerian youths, fostering a brighter future for the nation.

Mr.Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, disclosed this at the inauguration of the Elite Athletes Development and Podium Board at the National Stadium in Abuja.

He said: “Sports development in Nigeria is in safe hands with Shehu Dikko, the NSC Chairman, and the Director General of the Commission, Bukola Olopade. The impact of their leadership is already felt in the sporting industry.”

He also noted that, for the first time, the budget for sports is unprecedented, thanks to Tinubu’s commitment to sports development.

“The President wants to create a sporting culture where we can compete with any country in the world,” Dare added.

Shehu Dikko, in his welcome address, said preparations for the Los Angeles Olympics have commenced, with a budget line dedicated to Olympic preparation and another for the Commonwealth Games.

“We are doing all we can to fund athletes’ activities before any major tournament, which will help drive sports development for podium finishing,” he said.

The Elite Athletes Development and Podium Board, headed by ex-international and Olympian Yusuf Ali, aims to promote grassroots sports development and talent identification.

With the Presidency’s renewed focus on sports development, Nigerians can expect a significant boost in the country’s sporting landscape.
