Fatal shooting in Imo church: Trigger-happy priest taken into police custody

A tragic incident occurred at St. Columbus Catholic Church in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, resulting in the fatal shooting of a teenage boy.

The alleged perpetrator, Catholic Priest Rev. Father Joseph Enyinaya, has been taken into custody by police authorities.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place during the December 31 cross-over service, when the teenager threw a firecracker inside the church, prompting the priest to retrieve a revolver and fatally shoot the young boy.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, police spokesman Henry Okoye said: “The priest has been arrested, and the body of the boy has been recovered and deposited at Atta Ikeduru Mortuary.”

Okoye also said investigation into the incident has commenced.

“The police investigation is expected to shed more light on the events leading up to the incident.”
