Court remands Bello Turji’s associates facing terrorism charge in Kuje correctional centre, adjourns until till Feb. 10

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of four suspected terrorists with alleged ties to notorious bandit Bello Turji at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.

The defendants, who are facing an 11-count charge bordering on terrorism, were remanded pending their trial, scheduled for February 10, 2025.

Nwite issued the remand order in a brief ruling after the four defendants entered a “not-guilty” plea

The four defendants are Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, Abubakar Hashimu (aka Doctor), Samuel Chinedu, and Lucky Chukwuma.

Although eight people were named in the charge, three of them including the notorious Bello Turji still remain at large.

When the court registrar called the case, only four defendants were present in court.

Justice Nwite subsequently inquired about the absence of Bashir Abdullahi, listed as the 3rd defendant.

Mr. David Kaswe, representing the Attorney-General of the Federation, informed the court that Abdullahi was also at large.

Kaswe acknowledged the oversight and apologized to the court for the mistake.

The lawyer then requested, and was granted, the court’s permission to mark Abdullahi’s status as “at large” in the court records.

Persecondnews recalls that the FG, through the office of the AGF, had filed the 11-count charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/633/2024 against the eight defendants, four of whom are at large.

In a trial that started on Dec. 16, the four were named as defendants in a case filed by Mr. M.B. Abubakar, the Director of the Department of Public Prosecutions.

The remaining defendants, Bashir Abdullahi, Bello Turji, Aminu Muhammad, and Sani Lawal, were listed as the 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 8th defendants, respectively.
