In a step towards addressing concerns about the contentious tax reform bills, the Senate on Wednesday established a special committee.

The committee’s primary goal is to work closely with the Federal Government to resolve the ongoing issues surrounding the bills.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau announced this during Wednesday’s plenary session, which he presided over.

The committee members include all the Senate leadership, including other members like Sen. Tahir Mongunu, Sen. Adamu Aliero, Sen. Seriake Dickson, Sen. Titus Zam, Sen. Abdullahi Yahaya, Sen. Adeola Solomon, Sen. Sani Musa, and Sen. Tokunbo Abiru.

Barau said a delegation will be at the National Assembly on Thursday to address and resolve the issues fuelling the ongoing uproar over the bills.

He said: “We don’t want the country disunited. So, the delegations will meet to resolve the grey areas.”

The resolution followed Sen. Shehu Buba’s revelation in a BBC Hausa Service interview that Northern senators had agreed to withdraw the contentious tax reform bills.

Persecondnews recalls that the Senate on Wednesday passed the tax reform bills for the second reading following a heated debate among the lawmakers.

The bill was then referred to the Committee on Finance, which is expected to report back to the Senate within six weeks.

Also, President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday directed the Ministry of Justice to collaborate with lawmakers to address concerns surrounding the tax reform bills.
