President Bola Tinubu has landed in Cape Town, South Africa, to attend the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC).

According to the Special Adviser to the President on Information and strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his official X handle on Tuesday.

President Tinubu was received at the airport by South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr. Roland Lamola, and Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

Persecondnews reports that this marks President Tinubu’s second trip to South Africa in 2024 and his 33rd international trip since assuming office 18 months ago.

The Bi-National Commission, established in 1999, aims to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa.

This year’s session is particularly significant, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the Commission.

The meeting will feature discussions across eight working groups covering areas such as political consultations, migration, banking and finance, defence and security, trade and investments, and energy.

High-level deliberations will culminate in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements between the two nations.

The Presidency highlighted the event as a testament to the enduring partnership between Nigeria and South Africa, emphasizing its importance in advancing shared diplomatic, economic, and security goals.
