Manchester United legend, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, departs club after interim stint

Manchester United has confirmed the departure of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, the club legend who took charge as interim head coach following Erik ten Hag’s exit.

Van Nistelrooy’s departure comes after talks with new head coach Ruben Amorim on Monday.

Van Nistelrooy had been in charge for four unbeaten games, sparking hopes among fans that he would stay on in a role.

However, Amorim has decided not to incorporate the Dutchman into his backroom team.

Van Nistelrooy’s emotional farewell with the Stretford End on Sunday had fans hoping it wouldn’t be his last time in the dugout.

Unfortunately, that’s now the case. The 48-year-old returned to Old Trafford in the summer as an assistant to Ten Hag and later replaced his fellow countryman on a temporary basis.

Manchester United released a statement thanking Van Nistelrooy for his coaching contribution.

“Ruud is and always will be a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club.”

In addition to Van Nistelrooy, Ten Hag’s other former assistants—Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel—have also left the club.

Persecondnews reports that Amorim is expected to name a coaching team consisting of his Sporting Lisbon assistants Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, and Emanuel Ferro.

He also wants to recruit goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital and sports scientist Paulo Barreira.

Amorim officially began work at United on Monday, meeting club CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth, and technical director Jason Wilcox.

He’ll oversee his first game in charge against Ipswich on November 24, following the international break.

Amorim faces the daunting task of reviving United’s season, currently sitting 13th in the Premier League standings.

With a new coaching team in place, United fans will be watching closely to see how the Portuguese tactician can turn the team’s fortunes around.
