Tinubu Calls for Immediate End to Israeli Aggression in Gaza, Supports Two-State Solution

President Bola Tinubu has called for an immediate cessation of Israeli aggression in Gaza, emphasizing that the conflict has persisted for far too long, causing immense suffering.

Addressing the extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Monday, Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s support for a two-state solution, enabling Israelis and Palestinians to coexist in security and dignity.

The summit, convened to address the Middle East situation, brought together Heads of State and Government from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the League of Arab States.

The Nigerian leader expressed deep concern about Gaza’s humanitarian conditions and called for a ceasefire.

“The conflict in Palestine has persisted for far too long, inflicting immeasurable suffering on countless lives.

”As representatives of nations that value justice, dignity, and the sanctity of human life, we have a moral obligation to collectively bring about an immediate end to this conflict.

”It is not enough to issue empty condemnations. The world must work towards an end to Israeli aggression in Gaza, which has persisted for far too long.

“No political aim, no military strategy, and no security concern should come at the expense of so many innocent lives,” he said.

Tinubu stressed that the two-state solution remains crucial for lasting regional peace.

He noted that this vision represents the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians to self-determination and peace, grounded in principles of equality and mutual recognition.

The Nigerian leader stressed the importance of respecting proportionality and civilians’ basic rights, consistent with global legal and diplomatic frameworks.

He said the states have the right to self-defence but must consider proportionality.

Tinubu commended Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for convening the summit, describing it as a vital opportunity to renew diplomatic efforts toward sustainable peace.

Nigeria, drawing from its experiences, will continue supporting international efforts advancing peace and stability in the Middle East.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon, harping on the importance of preserving Lebanon’s sovereignty.

He highlighted Saudi Arabia’s role in promoting Palestinian statehood based on the 1967 borders.

Tinubu proposed establishing a secretariat to implement summit resolutions and urged leaders to mandate a select group of Heads of Government to canvass global support and oversee resolution implementation.

The Nigerian President pointed out the need for honest conversation to foster understanding and reconciliation.

He recognized the complexities faced by each side and urged the international community to engage in dialogue with sincerity and resolve.
