Remorseful Bolt driver apologizes to Abia Rep. Ikwechegh after public outburst

A Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, has apologized to a House of Representatives member representing Aba North and South of Abia State, Mr. Alex Ikwechegh, for the confrontation that took place during a package delivery to him.

Abuwatseya publicly expressed remorse in a video released to the media, appealing to those offended by his actions to forgive him.

He took the opportunity to extend a sincere apology to Ikwechegh for his provocative comments.

Abuwatseya, in furtherance of his remorsefulness, called for unity and forgiveness among Nigerians of all strata and ethnic backgrounds, stressing the need to be our brother’s keeper at all times.

He said: “I want to tell Nigerians that it’s not time for us to start dividing ourselves based on religion, tribes, or regions.

“We should actually come together and see how we can unite this nation and move it forward.”

The driver also took time to thank his family and well-wishers for their support at such a challenging period of his life.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker recently released a statement owning up to his actions and voicing remorse for his behaviour, showing accountability and a willingness to make amends.

In a message posted on his Instagram account, Ikwechegh apologized to the Uber driver, the Nigerian Police Force, and the National Assembly, asserting that his actions fell short of the standards expected of a public office holder regardless of the intensity of the provocation.

He explained that he had engaged in alternative dispute resolution with Abuwatseya, which led to a “mutual and respectful agreement” between them.

According to Persecondnews, a video clip that went viral on social media platforms showed the lawmaker repeatedly slapping Abuwatseya.

Irked by what he described as the driver’s rude behaviour toward him, the federal lawmaker boasted that he could make him disappear without trace and nothing would happen.

However, following a widespread condemnation that trailed his action and utterances, the lawmaker tendered a public apology for his conduct.

He was docked at an Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court and later granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the same sum.
