Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, director Dimeji Ajibola is dead

Dimeji Ajibola, the acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker behind the popular series Shanty Town, has passed away.

He died on Sunday, November 3 after battling an undisclosed illness, leaving a void in the Nigerian film industry and among his global fans.

His colleague Samuel Olatunji disclosed this in a message he sent to Per Second News, confirming the news.

The entertainment industry celebrated Ajibola as a creative force and a visionary for his groundbreaking blend of traditional and digital art forms.

His work spanned film, animation, VFX, virtual worlds, and interactive media.

He held a diverse educational background, having studied filmmaking and cinematography at the New York Film Academy in Universal Studios, advanced character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco, and visual effects at VFXLearning.

As the CEO and Technical Director of Flipsyde Studios Ltd., Ajibola built a reputation for excellence and innovation.

His work on Hoodrush in 2012 marked Nigeria’s first urban musical film, showcasing his ability to bridge narrative storytelling with rich musical elements.

The film won multiple awards, including Best Movie at the 2012 Green Me Film Festival in Germany, Best Actor and Soundtrack at the Nollywood Movie Awards, and Best Supporting Actor at the AMAA Awards.

Ajibola’s death marks a significant loss for the Nigerian creative community and the international entertainment industry.
