The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division, in collaboration with other security agencies, has launched a successful operation against illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta.

According to Persecondnews, the crackdown resulted in the deactivation of 34 illegal refining sites, the destruction of 19 boats and eight vehicles, and the arrest of 27 suspected oil thieves.

About 215,000 litres of stolen petroleum products were confiscated.

In Rivers State, operations focused on Abesa, Bukuma, and Bille, shutting down three artisanal refineries and recovering 100,000 litres of illegally refined automotive gas oil (AGO).

Additional arrests and recoveries were made in Delta, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom states, including seizure of arms and ammunition.

The Commanding Officer, Maj.-Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, commended the troops’ efforts, urging continued vigilance to secure the region for safe socio-economic activities.
