Outgoing Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Abubakar Momoh, has reassured stakeholders that the redesignation of his ministry to Ministry of Regional Development will not diminish the focus on Niger Delta development.

Speaking after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Momoh explained that the restructuring aims to create a unified supervisory framework for regional development commissions nationwide.

The commissions under the Ministry’s supervision include the Northwest Development Commission, Northeast Development Commission, and Southeast Development Commission.

Momoh noted that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) remains intact under the Ministry of Regional Development.

“For our people in the Niger Delta region, I would like them to know that this has not removed anything from them,” he stated.

The minister clarified that the change is merely administrative, reflecting the ministry’s expanded scope.

“All the structures and everything about the Niger Delta remain. It’s just a change of nomenclature and expansion of activities,” he said.

Momoh praised President Tinubu’s vision, describing the restructuring as forward-thinking for regional development coordination.

This development follows President Tinubu’s approval of eight key actions to enhance his administration’s efficiency.

The Ministry of Regional Development, which now oversees regional commissions, has replaced the Ministry of Niger Delta Development.

The Ministry of Sports Development has been dissolved, with functions transferred to the National Sports Commission.

The Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Arts and Culture have been merged.
