In a significant restructuring move, President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have abolished the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development.
Persecondnews reports that this decision was made during Wednesday’s FEC meeting held at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.
New entities will replace the scrapped ministries.
The Ministry of Regional Development will now oversee various regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.
Additionally, the National Sports Commission will take over the responsibilities of the former Ministry of Sports.
This change aims to streamline the government’s structure and enhance efficiency.
In another key development, the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
This consolidation is expected to foster greater collaboration and innovation in Nigeria’s tourism and creative sectors.
