The win marked the team’s third consecutive victory in the qualifying campaign.Coach Austin Eguavoen made tactical changes, switching to a 4-3-3 formation and introducing Frank Onyedika, Alex Iwobi, and Moses Simon to the starting lineup.
The changes paid off as the team created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the match.
Libya’s goalkeeper, Murad Al Wuheeshi, was instrumental in keeping the scoreline goalless for most of the game, making several impressive saves to deny the Super Eagles.
However, substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru eventually broke the deadlock in the 86th minute with a sublime goal, assisted by Moses Simon.
The Super Eagles dominated possession and created multiple chances, with Iwobi, Lookman, and Chukwueze all coming close to scoring.
According to Persecondnews, Al Wuheeshi’s outstanding goalkeeping kept Libya in the game until Dele-Bashiru’s late winner.
The victory maintains Nigeria’s perfect start to the qualifying campaign, with nine points from three matches.
The Super Eagles will face Libya again in the return leg on Tuesday, seeking to consolidate their position at the top of the group.
With this win, Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have received a significant boost, and coach Eguavoen will look to building on this momentum in the upcoming matches.
