Controversial social media influencer and singer, Speed Darlington, has been arrested by the Nigerian Police following his controversial remarks about Grammy-winning artist, Burna Boy.
In a series of viral videos, Speed Darlington alleged that Burna Boy secured his Grammy Award after engaging in inappropriate relations with American rapper and producer, Sean Combs, popularly known as P. Diddy.
Burna Boy’s camp has taken legal action in response to the widely circulated online claims.
Speed Darlington, known for his unfiltered style on social media, claimed in the video that Burna Boy’s Grammy success was a result of an intimate encounter between the Nigerian singer and Diddy.
According to Darlington, this alleged encounter occurred when the two worked together on Burna Boy’s Grammy-winning album, Twice As Tall.
The sensational claims have drawn widespread attention, culminating in Darlington’s arrest.
In a video that surfaced after his arrest, Speed Darlington’s mother made a heartfelt appeal, calling on Burna Boy and his team to forgive her son.
She expressed deep concern over the situation, noting that Darlington is her only son and pleading for his release.
Her emotional plea has resonated with many online, with some users sympathizing with the distraught mother.
She urged Burna Boy to drop any legal actions against Speed Darlington, acknowledging the gravity of the situation but requesting leniency.
“He’s my only son; please release him to me. He means the world to me, and I beg Burna Boy to forgive him,” she said in the emotional video.
Meanwhile, Deji Adeyanju, a human rights activist and lawyer, who serves as Speed Darlington’s legal counsel, has provided updates on the singer’s legal situation.
According to Adeyanju, Darlington was arrested last Friday in Lagos by the police, following a petition filed by Burna Boy.
The petition led to his subsequent detention and transfer to Abuja, where he remains in police custody.
Adeyanju further revealed that he and his legal team have been working to secure Darlington’s release since his arrest.
“We just spent the last 30 minutes with Speed Darlington, and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos, moved around, and eventually brought to Abuja. He has been in detention since then,” the lawyer said.
The lawyer confirmed that Burna Boy had indeed filed a petition against Darlington over the controversial video. “Petition against him was written by Burna Boy, we can confirm,” Adeyanju disclosed.
The legal team is now actively working to ensure Darlington’s release, with plans underway to challenge the allegations brought against him.
Despite the legal turmoil, Darlington’s mother continues to plead with both Burna Boy and the public for understanding.
She has expressed hope that her son will be released soon, emphasizing that his arrest has been a trying time for the family.
Supporters of Speed Darlington have taken to social media to call for his release, with the hashtag #FreeSpeedDarlington gaining traction on various platforms.
While some have condemned his comments, others argue that his arrest is an overreaction and a threat to freedom of speech.
Burna Boy, on the other hand, has remained silent about the controversy, and his legal team has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
However, his fans and supporters have rallied behind him, defending his Grammy win as a legitimate achievement.
As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how the legal battle between Speed Darlington and Burna Boy will be resolved.
