FIFA bans Samuel Eto’o from national team games for six months

FIFA has banned football legend Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation, from attending any national team games for six months.

The decision comes after Eto’o faced two charges related to an incident at the Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia on September 11.

According to FIFA, Eto’o breached disciplinary rules regarding “offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play” and official misconduct.

The ban prevents Eto’o from attending men’s and women’s matches involving Cameroon teams of all categories and age groups.

“The ban imposed on Mr. Eto’o prevents him from attending men’s and women’s matches involving [Cameroon] teams of all categories and age groups,” FIFA said in a statement.

Eto’o, 43, is a renowned football icon, having played for Cameroon in four World Cups and winning back-to-back Champions League titles with Barcelona and Inter Milan.

Details of the incident that led to the ban have not been disclosed by FIFA.

However, the decision highlights the governing body’s commitment to upholding disciplinary standards in football.

Since 2021, Eto’o has been president of the Cameroonian Football Federation.

This ban may impact his ability to fulfil his duties during the suspension period.
