Company staff and family members have been overcome with grief as a worker committed suicide, jumping into an iron melting pot at the factory in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The 25-year-old contract worker, whose identity is yet to be revealed, allegedly jumped into an iron melting pot at his company and died.

The tragic incident occurred at the Industrial Scheme in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, on August 3, 2024, at about 6 p.m.

Persecondnews gathered that the deceased worker attached to the AOD Section of the company allegedly jumped into the iron melting pot, which was out of bounds for all the staff during operation.

Interventions by workers to stop him were unsuccessful, as his body was completely roasted.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the safety officer of the company reported the case to the Sagamu Road Police Station on August 3 at about 6 p.m.

He said: “He (the worker) jumped into it, and all efforts made by his colleagues to stop him proved abortive, while his body was completely melted.

“Detectives from the station visited the crime scene. The family of the deceased has since been contacted, while investigation is ongoing.”
