President Bola Tinubu forwarded a landmark bill to the House of Representatives on Tuesday, seeking to establish a new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers in both the public and private sectors.
The executive bill seeks to formalize the recently negotiated agreement between organized labour, the organized private sector, and the Federal Government.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read a letter from the President on the House floor, outlining a new national minimum wage and the legal framework for its implementation.
Tinubu urged the lawmakers to expedite the passage of the minimum wage bill, emphasizing the need for timely implementation and prompt benefits for Nigerian workers.
In a separate communication, the President requested the lawmakers to consider revising the Nigeria Police Act in accordance with Section 58 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
The proposed amendment aims to modify the provisions regarding the appointment and term of office for the Inspector General of Police.
