The governors of the 36 states, under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors Forum, are to meet in Abuja on Wednesday to resolve the lingering minimum wage issue.

Mrs. Halima Ahmed, the Acting Director on Media and Public Affairs of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), said governors would meet in Abuja by 7 p.m. on Wednesday to discuss the minimum wage.

Persecondnews recalls that the governors rejected the federal government’s N62,000 proposal, arguing that implementing the amount would force some states to borrow to pay salaries.

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu announced that he required more time to engage in extensive consultations with stakeholders to determine a suitable and realistic national minimum wage.

During the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Tuesday, Tinubu clarified the need for additional consultations on the minimum wage issue, which the Council had tabled for discussion and deliberation.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a briefing with State House correspondents on Tuesday.
