Southern governors storm Ogun for crucial meeting

The agenda of the convergence is not known yet, but the Southern Governors are meeting for the first time after the death of the late Rotimi Akeredolu, former Governor of Ondo State, who was the chairman of the forum.

Mr. Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State, welcomed a delegation of ten governors from the southern part of the country on Monday for a crucial meeting.

The event took place at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The governors in attendance included Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Alex Otii (Abia), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom).

Also present were Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Bassey Otu (Cross River), as well as the deputy governors of Imo (Chinyere Ekomaru), Delta (Monday Onyeme), and Ondo (Olayide Adelami).

At approximately 1:18 pm, the governors proceeded to the Marque Hall for a private meeting, though only ten were present, contrary to the expectation of seventeen indicated on the banner publicizing the event.

The agenda of the convergence is not known yet, but the Southern Governors are meeting for the first time after the death of the late Rotimi Akeredolu, former Governor of Ondo State, who was the chairman of the forum.

The forum has not elected a new chairman since Akeredolu’s death in December 2023.
