The Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Enoh, gave Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the fastest woman in the world, her flowers after she stormed to a big win in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational on Sunday.

Amusan clocked a season-best 12.40s to win the race.

The 27-year-old beat Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, who ran 12.46s, while Christina Clemons of the United States of America came in third in 12.54s.

Amusan has now taken over the world lead from American Tonea Marshall, who had run 12.42s in late April.

The Jamaica Athletics Invitational is a Continental Tour silver meet.

The Ogun State-born athlete is the world, Commonwealth, and African record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles.

The minister of sports development, Enoh, took to his official X handle to congratulate the pacesetter on his achievement.

He said: “Take your flowers. Tobi Amusan, you stormed to an emphatic win in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational, clocking a time of 12.40s (0.9), a world lead time!

“You defeated World Champion Danielle Williams, who came 2nd in 12.46s, while Christina Clemons came in 3rd in 12.54s.

“Tobi, you keep making our country proud. The Paris Olympics are around the corner, and your performance gives us hope, just like others, that Nigeria is set to break a jinx. Keep soaring; we are proud of you.”
