Protesting members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and other related organizations were on Tuesday received by Lagos lawmakers, voicing their grievances over the dire economic circumstances facing the nation.

The labor organizations were praised for their nonviolent behavior by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, who was represented by the Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Noheem Adams.

He recalled that the Assembly had just passed a motion urging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take action in an effort to improve the situation, voicing concerns about the state of the economy.

Members from various constituencies held a lengthy discussion about the state’s current suffering during last week’s plenary.

“Hopefully, things will go back in order. We are confident about that. He called on them to lead against a miscreant takeover of the demonstration.

“Lagos State is one of the safest states in the nation and the Lagos Assembly is seriously pushing for state police,” he said in a statement given to Persecondnews by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Eromosele Ebhomele.

He also pleaded with them to carry on the demonstration in a nonviolent way.

The NLC’s Lagos chapter chairperson, Comrade Funmi Sessi, bemoaned the low wages of workers.

“They are not going anywhere with this [the income]. The majority of people have nothing to feed their families and are dependent on loans.

“Until a solution is offered, today marks the beginning of many more protests in the state,” she declared.

She implored the State Assembly to convey to Governor Babijide Sanwo-Olu and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “that Lagosians are hungry and cannot continue to pay rent due to the hardship the citizens are facing.”

Other lawmakers who attended to the demonstrators include Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, Abiodun Tobun, Desmond Elliot, Ajani Owolabi, Ogunkelu Sylvester, and Sanni Okanlawon.
