The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire have been crowned with a third Africa Cup of Nations title by beating the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2-1.

Over two billion people around the world watched the continent’s game, and Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima led the presidential delegation to the event to support the Super Eagles.

Persecondnews reports that Sebastian Haller demonstrated perfect technique and commendable calm in the six-yard box to stab the ball past Stanley Nwabali to give the Elephant the lead in the encounter and secure a third title.

The pragmatic approach from Jose Peseiro, playing in a 3-4-3 formation, to try to absorb the pressure and catch the Ivorians on the counter apparently did not pay off.

The Super Eagles looked subdued in the midfield and overwhelmed defensively by waves of Cote d’Ivoire attacks during the 95-minute encounter.

The hosts, despite having a tupsy-turvy group stage, regained their spark in the knockout round, with Sebastian Haller spearheading the good fortunes of the Elephants.

The Africa Cup of Nations is a time when the best footballers congregate for the most intense and exhilarating football matches.

Over the years, there have been some incredible performances from some of the game’s most talented players.

From stunning solo efforts to clinical finishes, players have left lasting, indelible impacts on the competition’s history.
