Petrol queues in Lagos: NNPCL allays fear of scarcity, blames queues on resolved distribution issue

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) says the long queues in some filling stations in Lagos State are due to a “brief distribution issue.”

The NNPCL said on Tuesday that the “tightness” was a result of what it called a “brief distribution issue.”.

Long queues were noticed in some filling stations in Lagos on Monday, while NNPC outlets in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, had no petrol, fueling speculations of a fresh scarcity of petrol or Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The queues were noticeable at filling stations on the Funsho Williams Avenue-Ikorodu Expressway while stations on Obafemi Awolowo Way in Ikeja were shut.

According to information, as of Monday evening, the NNPCL’s filling stations along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway were not dispensing fuel.

Commenting on the situation, the NNPCL spokesperson, Mr. Femi Soneye, dismissed insinuations of fresh fuel scarcity in an interview with Punch.

Soneye disclosed that the NNPCL did not have supply issues, saying its products remained readily available.

He added that the distribution issue in some areas had been resolved.

“We are pleased to confirm that there are no supply issues and that our products remain readily available.

“The recent tightness experienced in certain areas was due to a brief distribution issue in Lagos, which has since been resolved,” Soneye said.
