Chelsea won the bragging rights in a nervy West London derby against Fulham.

Fans at Stamford Bridge were edgy as the Blues were one-goal winners over Marco Silva’s men.

Issa Diop fouled Raheem Sterling in the 18-yard box, which led to Cole Palmer calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper from the penalty spot to score Chelsea’s lone goal in the game in the first half.

The match winner, Palmer, said: “I like to try and help the team every game with goals and assists. It’s my job going forward.”

After 22 games, Cole Palmer has already scored as many goals (9) for the club as any Chelsea player managed in the whole of last season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea have been awarded more penalties (8) than any other side in the Premier League this season.

The Blues inability to convert chances created into goals hunted them in the closing stages of the game as the pressure from Fulham almost broke the resolve of the Chelsea defence.

A heartbreaking moment in the last minutes of extra time exposed Chelsea’s inability to control the game and tactically dictate the pace of the game.

The full-time whistle signified that Chelsea will move up to eight on the log above Manchester United and Newcastle.
