Following a “speedy passage” of the 2024 Rivers State budget of N800 billion by a five-member legislature, Gov. Siminalayi Fubara, has signed it into law, all within 24 hours.
Persecondnews had reported that the governor on Wednesday “presented” the 2024 Appropriation bill to the lawmakers led by a factional Speaker, Edison Ehie, at its “plenary session” at the Government House.
The demolition of the House of Assembly complex by the state government had forced the lawmakers loyal to the governor to relocate to the Government House.
But barely a day after its presentation, it was “passed” and sent to the governor for his assent.
The signing ceremony was reportedly held on Thursday at the Conference Room of the Governor’s Office at the Government House.
Fubara had said the budget was aimed at promoting economic development through inclusive growth and addressing socio-economic inequality in the state.
He gave highlights of the budget as recurrent expenditure N361,598,242,570.85 billion and capital expenditure N410,266,485,090.64.billion.
