Amid political crisis in the state, Mr Zacchaeus Adangor, has stepped down as the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice of Rivers State.

Adangor tendered his resignation letter dated on December 14, addressed to Gov. Siminalayi Fubara, stating that his resignation is “based purely on personal reasons.”

He had served as the state Attorney General for eight years in the administration of Nyesom Wike, who was governor from May 2015 to May 2023.

The letter reads: “I hereby give Your Excellency Notice of my resignation as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State with effect from the date of this letter.

“For the avoidance of doubt, my resignation from the said office is based purely on personal principles.

“I wish to thank Your Excellency for the opportunity and privilege granted me to serve in your administration as a member of the Cabinet.”

Sources close to Adangor told Persecond News that the resignation is due to the governor’s controversial presentation of the state budget to only five members of the House of Assembly and the demolition of the House of Assembly complex on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Joseph Johnson, had said the demolition of the complex was as a result of structural defects following a recent explosion and fire that rendered the main building “unfit and unsafe” for human use.

In a statement, he said Gov. Fubara had inspected the facility to see the level of damage done to it on the day of the fire and had invited professionals to advise the government on the integrity of the building.
