Ondo State Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has assumed office after the mandatory transfer of power to him by the ailing Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu
This followed a second intervention by President Bola Tinubu, prevailing on the governor to transfer power to his deputy.
Akeredolu has, however, announced that he has proceeded on an indefinite medical leave.
On his return to Akure, the state capital, on Wednesday, Aiyedatiwa, was received by a former Secretary to the State Government, Mr Ifedayo Abegunde and his supporters.
Persecondnews recalls that Aiyedatiwa was confirmed by the State House of Assembly as acting governor following a letter from Akeredolu notifying lawmakers that he was proceeding on another round of medical leave in Germany.
The Speaker, Mr Olamide Oladiji, confirmed receipt of the letter and the acting appointment of Aiyedatiwa, saying the governor’s action is in line with Section 190 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
In the letter, Akeredolu said Aiyedatiwa would assume the responsibilities of governor in an acting capacity until there is a written declaration to the contrary.
He said the “indefinite leave” had commenced on Wednesday.
